Dad Wally had been raised on the next-door spread below Helderberg & after marrying the girl-next-door, he bought Die Fonteine (Fountains) farm, being well aware of the quality of the property’s grape-friendly soils and favoured situation just a cool breeze from the Atlantic Ocean. In 1995, having supplied grapes and wine for sale under other labels, the family decided to hoist their own flag, Somerbosch (an allusion to the farm’s situation exactly midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West). The entry-level ranges consist of a dry white & dry red called Seugnet (pronounced soo-nay) and the Poker Hill -which are available in 750ml & 375ml bottles. Our premium range includes the better-known varietals Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage & Shiraz. Our new flagship blend, KYLIX, was released in August 2005 & has become a very firm favourite of the connoisseur’s collection.
