Wines from Paul Blanck Winery
- 2004 Riesling Schlossberg, Kienztheim, Domaine Blanck
Thrilling, racy, organic, with classic aromas of flowers, petrol and apples - the last word in Alsace Riesling. The Blanck family, winemakers since 1610, would probably pair it with roast goose ('diet' just doesn't translate into Alsatian patois). Then work off the excess poundage by striding around the Schlossberg vineyard, a steep amphitheatre of weathered granite terraces in Kaysersberg, officially designated a Grand Cru thanks to the efforts of previous Blancks.

- 2006 Pinot Blanc, Kienztheim, Domaine Blanck
Alsace Pinot Blanc should have a higher profile. Delicious, true-to-type examples like this bright, clean cuvée, with its plump orchard fruit flavours and citrusy edge can't fail to help. Serve it with roast belly pork and you're sure to make sudden converts to the variety. Sustaining a winemaking tradition that dates back to 1610, Frédéric and Philippe Blanck are passionate about Alsace's classic grapes and their family's ancient vineyards, cultivating them as organically as they can.

- 2007 Gewürztraminer, Domaine Blanck
Purity, elegance, soulfulness. Qualities abundant in cuvées from our favourite Alsace winemakers, the reflective, thoughtful Blanck brothers. Theirs is an impressive domaine including steep Grand Cru sites NW of Colmar, painstakingly acquired over four centuries (Philippe Blanck remembers being carried as a child - his pram was sold to help fund vineyard maintenance). This organic Gewürz is suffused with aromas of limes, lychees and rose petals. A white for spicy dishes.
