Nederburg Winery

Nederburg

Nederburg is South Africa's favourite name in wine, loved for a delicious combination of fruit and finesse. Established in 1791. near Paarl, we are South Africa's most awarded winery and the popular choice of critics and regular winelovers. Nederburg’s history, dating back to 1791, is remarkable for the pioneering and visionary ideals of those associated with the winery. And today, Nederburg is South Africa’s most widely awarded name in wine. Phillipus Wolvaart established the 49 hectares farm of Paarl Valley, and in just six years, the land was completely fruitful. Through revolutionary techniques such as cold fermentation, Johann Graue, who took ownership in 1937, established Nederburg as the leading producer of quality South African wines. Our viticulturists and cellar team travel widely to keep abreast of international best practice and we embark on extensive vine and winemaking research. Yet despite the many advances in wine-growing and winemaking technology available to us, we still follow a philosophy embedded by pioneering viticulturist and winemaker Johann Georg Graue. When he acquired the farm in 1937, he taught those working with him the critical importance of using superior fruit to make superior wine. It's a credo that has never changed. It informs every aspect of our wine-growing and winemaking and has been followed by all his successors.
