We travelled the world in search of the ultimate home for us, a place that would fulfil our dream of being makers of very special, unique wine. Many places charmed us -- Cyprus, France, Portugal, Spain, Madeira, New Zealand, Victoria, Tasmania, Margaret River and the Hunter Valley -- but we kept returning to the Barossa Valley, drawn by all it had to offer: 1. A unique district that maintains many of the great traditions lost in other areas. 2. A strong commitment to preserving a great vineyard heritage (where special wine starts!) rather than letting it be taken over by industry or sub-division. 3. A climate with four very distinct seasons. 4. A wonderful sense of community where everyone works together for the common good, taking pride in the achievements of one and all. Upon seeing our 45 acre (18 hectare) vineyard, initially purchased in 1853 by George Friedrich Schmidt for one pound an acre, we knew we had discovered the vineyard and home of our dream. The blend of the old classic Barossa feel and subtle Mediterranean influences in our home is a philosophy carried over to our wines.
