Our winery in the Yarra Valley is home to Giant Steps Vignerons and Innocent Bystander winemakers. Situated in the heart of Healesville, the winery has been described as the "mecca of all things great!" Come and try the full range of Innocent Bystander and Giant Steps wines, all made in small batches in our gravity flow winery. Tastings available everyday. Free winery tours at 11am and 3pm daily. Giant Steps was established in 1997 by the Sexton family soon after they took a giant step by selling their highly successful Devils Lair Winery in Margaret River and moving to the Yarra Valley. Giant Steps is named after the first solo album by John Coltrane, who also made a leap of faith when he split with Miles Davis in the late 1950s. Giant Steps, first released in 2001, focuses exclusively on the distinctive expression of single vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley. Grapes are drawn from estate vineyards, including the Sexton Vineyard on the Warramate Range, situated on a steep, north-facing hillside site; as well as parcels from long-term contracted growers, supported by strong relationships and meticulous supervision throughout the year. These sites include the Tarraford Vineyard in nearby Tarrawarra, Arthurs Creek Vineyard, Miller Vineyard (Jimmy Watson winner) in Steels Creek, and the Gladysdale Vineyard in the much higher Gladysdale district. Under winemaker Steve Flamsteed, the wines are vinified at the specialised gravity-flow, small-batch winery in the Yarra Valley’s historic town of Healesville. The winemaking process involves minimal intervention to faithfully express each wine’s vineyard site, vintage and culture.
