Dehesa del Carrizal

The Country Estate Montes de Toledo is a widespread region that extends from the basin of the Tajo river to the Guadiana depression, within the provinces of Toledo and Ciudad Real. The region takes its name form the city of Toledo; the metropolis used to belong to prior to king Fernando III, selling the land to finance his reconquest of southern Spain. This terrain remained practically abandoned until the mid 19th century, when the Madoz seizure facilitated its transfer into private hands. However, it was not until then late 20th century that the region was finally appreciated for its enormous hunting and ecological value. Dr. Marcial Gómez Sequeira bought in 1984 the country estate Dehesa del Carrizal, situated in the Montes de Toledo, and planted his first vineyard only two years later, thereby writing the first page of a great winery project.
