Château de Fontenille is located very near the Abbey of La Sauve Majeure on gravel terroirs bathed in a generous sun. In the IVth century when the poet Ausone was praising the wines of the region, perched a villa at the locality called ”Font e Melha” of which some ruins still remain today. We can find other traces in the XVth century in the archives of the Abbey of La Sauve Majeure on which Fontenille will depend until the XVIIth century.
