San Martino sulla Marrucina is a little centuries-old village of just one thousand inhabitants located at an altitude of 410 m at just 20 kilometers from the Maiella mountain and 20 kilometers from the Adriatic sea. One surely has to come here and see the beautiful landscapes, the vineyards scattered along the whole Abruzzo, the olive plants, our memories and ancestral traditions. Here lies Masciarelli’s biggest cellar, here is the place where his adventure and his success began in 1981 following as he uses to say “his destiny”. Gianni Masciarelli put together the love, passion and knowledge for vineyards he had inherited from his grandfather Giovannino, the experience he had gained directly on the field and his personal studies on wine. But considerable part of his success is certainly due to his love for the family. Together with his wife, Marina Cvetic, who gave her name to some of Masciarelli best famous labels. From the starting 2,5 hectares, the estate today owns 350 hectares dislocated in each province of Abruzzo (Chieti,Pescara,Teramo,l’Aquila). Most of the lands are cultivated with Montepulciano and Trebbiano, the Abruzzo typical grape varieties, but part of them produce international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon (in San Martino sulla Marruccina and Ripa Teatina) and Merlot or Cabernet Franc in the province of L’Aquila. The cultivated areas are all very different. From the vineyards dislocated along the Maiella mountain in the province of Chieti, to those on the hills along the Adriatic sea in the province of Teramo. The current yearly production of Gianni Masciarelli winery is of more than one million and a half bottles, commercialized in three ranges: Masciarelli Classico, Villa Gemma ancd Marina Cvetic and exported in 36 countries. In recent times Masciarelli winery has released two new wines. A Montepulciano called ISKRA, a slav terms meaning “sparkle which represents the further witness of Masciarelli’s productive philosophy. Just like in the other wines the goal is to vinify 100% Montepulciano while trying to give each of them a proper character, derived by the specific qualities of the territory. A Trebbiano called Castello di Semivicoli in the name of the ancient baronial Palace of Semivicoli purchased in 2004 by Gianni Masciarelli and Marina Cvetic. The success of Gianni Masciarelli is due to the love he has for his family and his land and to the continuous satisfactions he gets from his activity.
