Wines from Ridge Winery

  • 2004 Château du Glana, St Julien

Firm-structured, with aromas of blackcurrants, cedar and spice, and classy oak at the finish. Roast lamb wine. We've found Château du Glana to be a reliable supplier of outstanding value clarets to challenge its illustrious neighbours in St.Julien, Châteaux Ducru Beaucaillou and Léoville-Barton. All are situated on a ridge of pebbles left by a glacier as it retreated along the Médoc. Such well-drained corrugations provide perfect growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

  • 2006 Givry Blanc, Domaine Guy Chaumont

Fine white Burgundy, complex and long, packed with intense, buttery citrus and melon flavours balanced by crisp natural acidity. Givry was the preferred wine of Henry IV, maybe because this town in southern Burgundy's Côte Châlonnaise (a low ridge running from Beaune, recently granted its own appellation) was the birthplace of his mistress Gabrielle d'Estrées. Guy Chaumont's Givry holdings are now certified organic by 'Nature & Progrès'.

  • 2005 Château Saint Marc

Thanks to the deep, lean gravelly ridges and Margaux's propensity for a high Cabernet Sauvignon content, this commune at the southern end of the Medoc, is renowned for producing wines of finesse and breeding. St Marc lives up to these characteristics, where the structure in its infancy tends to outweigh the vibrant black fruit.

  • 2006 Givry Rouge, Domaine Guy Chaumont

The earthy, almost savoury character of this silky-textured, cranberry-scented red Burgundy lend themselves to the company of mushroomy, truffly dishes. Givry was the preferred wine of Henry IV, maybe because this town in southern Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise (a low ridge running from Beaune, recently granted its own appellation) was the birthplace of his mistress Gabrielle d'Estrées. Guy Chaumont's Givry holdings are now certified organic by 'Nature & Progrès'.

  • 2006 Bourgogne Cote Chalonnaise Blanc, Domaine Guy Chaumont

Made in the village of Givry which was the preferred wine of Henry IV, maybe because this town in southern Burgundy's Côte Châlonnaise (a low ridge running from Beaune, recently granted its own appellation) was the birthplace of his mistress Gabrielle d'Estrées. Guy Chaumont's holdings are now certified organic by 'Nature & Progrès'.

  • 2004 Château du Glana, Unmixed 12-bottle case offer.

• 2004 Petit Verdot, Ceravolo

Chunk of mature Cheddar left in the fridge? Steak or casserole on the stove? Here's what you need. Deep, brooding black fruit flavours with hints of spicy American oak - the forgotten grape of Bordeaux hot-housed to perfection on the Adelaide Plains. Home to Italian market gardens and vineyards since the 1950s, the Plains have covertly contributed to wines the calibre of 'Grange'. Joe Ceravolo is bringing the region into view with prodigiously bemedalled wines like this.

  • Neblina Merlot Rosé 2008 Central Valley (75cl)

The Central Valley's climate is generally Mediterranean with warm, dry summers. Rainfall, averaging between 300 and 800m, is restricted to the winter. On the western edge of the valley, summer temperatures average 15-18 degrees but may rise to 30 with clear skies. A true New World rose, with intense colour and mouthwatering red fruit characters. This fruity wine is best drunk well-chilled on a summer's day.

  • Coldridge Estate Chardonnay 2007 South Australia (75cl)

A soft buttery Chardonnay, with a smooth mouthfeel and a rich fruity finish. Whilst this wine makes an excellent companion to most types of food it is mellow enough to also be enjoyed on its own.

  • Coldridge Estate Shiraz Cabernet 2006 South Australia (75cl)

A soft fruity red with ripe berry fruit and gentle spicy flavours in a mid weighted easy drinking style. The spicy Shiraz is lightened by the leafy Cabernet Sauvignon, and the two varieties are integrated and enriched by the judicious use of oak.

  • Coldridge Estate Merlot 2008 South Eastern Australia (75cl)

Soft, rounded and very easy-drinking with characteristic Merlot fruit, and smoky vanilla undertones. Enjoy in the coming year.

  • The Ridge Syrah 2004 Graham Beck, Robertson (75cl)

The grapes for this wine have been hand-picked and matured for a period of 14 months in both American and French Oak. A full flavoured wine with a deep seductive plum colour, boasting smooth berry fruits and hints of spice. Ready to drink now but will mature for a further 2-5 years.

  • Oeil de Perdrix Rosé NV (75cl)

Named as its light, delicate colour matches that of the eye of the Partridge, this is a subtley delicious Champagne from Devaux. Coming from the Cotes des Bars in the south of the region, the red Pinot Noir grapes develop an unusual level of ripeness, lending the wine its hue despite a gentle pressing. Although certainly delicate in style, there is a perfect weight of fruit, developing fine biscuity characteristics as the wine matures.

  • Clos d'Yvigne Bel Ami Rosé 2007 Bergerac (75cl)

Winemaker, Patricia Atkinson's, Clos d'Yvigne, is a small vineyard with a large reputation; situated on the beautiful ridge of hills that run along the left side of the Dordogne between Sainte Foy la Grande and Bergerac. From 100% Merlot, fresh raspberries, strawberries and cream attack the palate, complimented by a refreshing, crisp acidity. Beautiful colour, complex nose and intense fruitiness, make this vibrant, elegant wine a must on a hot summer's evening.

  • 2005 Calamus - Dragon Tale Premium Range - Chalice Bridge

This new release has already won the Silver Medal 2005 at the Quantas Barker Wine Show. Innovative nose of blackcurrant and spice with intense forward fruit, deep colour, hanging into the glass, the palate returns an abundance of fruit, more interesting than Shiraz, a wine to discover! Hand-crafted fine wines from the Margaret River do not get any better than this. Put together with great skill, a very well made wine indeed. Turns a normal evening-in into an occasion....

  • 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon - Chalice Bridge

Considered the finest vintage. An awesome wine from a special area that has become the vineyard managers favourite parcel. Soft and velvety with a cascade of rhubarb and raspberries layered over chocolate sweetness. Just magnificent!

  • 2005 Shiraz - Chalice Bridge - Premium

Bright garnet red in colour with crunchy red and black berry fruit and szechuan pepper spice on the nose. Crisp and fresh on the palate with good ripe berry fruit, some notes of chocolate and spice balanced by fresh acidity, ripe yet firm tannins and moderate alcohol. Great served with lamb, with the peppery and berry fruit flavours accentuating the delicate flavours of the meat.
