- 2007 Canoe Tree Rose,
As handy a summer wine as ever you'll find. Supremely juicy Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon rosé chock full of ripe raspberry and strawberry fruit with a fresh, dry bite at the finish. The perfect sunshine quaffer, great for barbecued chicken and seafood. You'd more than likely be served this on the deck of a cruiser on Australia's Murray River. See those oval-shaped scars on the ancient riverbank trees? That's where the Aborigines cut into the bark to make canoes.

Don't fire up the barbecue without it. Everyone will want a taste of this rich, spicy 14% whopper Australian red, and that's no problem at the budget-friendly price. Our old friends at Beresford Wines lovingly crafted it from prime Shiraz and Cabernet grown in Langhorne Creek, long a contributor to the legendary Grange (Australia's most prestigious red). Canoe Tree? The name given to ancient gum trees whose bark was used to make yes, you've guessed it, canoes.

Man-sized Shiraz at 14.5%, endowed with a prodigiously rich, spicy palate. At its best with rib roasts - or on its own if you're intent on a state of near-instant bonhomie. Another stand-out from South Australia's sea-breeze caressed McLaren Vale, where ex-Hardy's man Rob Dundon founded his impressive winery in grand old bluestone cellars. Together with accomplice Scott McIntosh (formerly at the renowned Maglieri cellar) he's snared over 1,000 show accolades.

Semillon lemon zestiness meets peachy, rounded Chardonnay in this value-rich all-around quaffer. Relaxing in the garden, prawn on the barbecue, roast chicken, all of the above.
