The building, which dates from the 12th century, housed a girls boarding school in the 1800s.Closed for the last ten years, the site was recently restored to its former splendor and prepared for its present use thanks to the Iacopini family who has been its proprietor for many years. This work has left unaltered the original structure of the building, and has successfully created an elegant, charming residence in the heart of Luccas historic city center.Known today as the Palazzo Alexander, the residence encompasses four floors of rooms and junor suites, all with modern, private bathrooms-some with whirlpool baths. In addition, all rooms contain such conveniences as air conditioning, satellite television, telephones, computer hook-ups, safe and hairdryers.The dcor of the residence reflects the noble Lucchese style with the use of antique wood floors in all the bedrooms and fine marble and other local stones in the bathrooms, lobby and common rooms. Once you arrive at the exit Lucca est you have to paythe toll. From now on follow the main large road following the signsindicating the city center: you will come across a fly over, and 200metres forward you will notice the Walls of Lucca just in front of you.Straight on with the Walls standing on your right side. You will notice oneof the entrances to the old city, but straight on till the second largeentrance through the Walls that is called Porta San Donato (it is in front of a gas station called Tamoil).
