When arriving by car the easiest way to get to Carcassonne is by the highway A61, the nearest exit is the exit n24 Carcassonne Est. Follow the signs indicating La Cit. In a few minutes you will arrive at the medieval fortress, the Hotel de la Cit is situated within the city walls next to the basilica Saint Nazaire. To access to the hotel (traffic is prohibited inside the medieval city from 9am to 7pm) you have to go to the parking which is reserved for hotel guests and which is situated outside the city walls. This parking is at no cost. When you arrive in front of the main entrance of the medieval city, with the drawbridge and the carrousel, follow the panels indicating Hotel guest car park or Access Cit.You will then arrive in a large car park following the ramparts with a guardian of the municipal police at the entrance. A hostess of the hotel will be present at this parking from noon to 7pm and will organize your transfer to the hotel with a shuttle.
